What is a VTC?
VTC stands for vehículo de turismo con conductor, literally "passenger vehicle with driver". It is a transport licence that allows passengers to be carried in a chauffeur-driven car, provided the service has been booked beforehand.
In practice, a VTC works like a private chauffeur: you give the pickup point, destination, date and time, receive the price, and the car arrives at the agreed address. Platforms such as Uber and Cabify work with VTCs, but there are also independent chauffeurs with their own licence, such as Su Chófer Personal in Salamanca.

Differences between a VTC and a taxi
Booking. A VTC is always booked in advance; a taxi can also be hailed in the street or taken from a rank.
Price. With a VTC, you know the price before the journey; a taxi usually charges by the meter or according to regulated fares.
Area. A taxi licence is tied to a municipality or area; a VTC can make journeys across Spain, provided most of its services pass through the autonomous region where it is registered.
Service. With a VTC, you choose the vehicle to suit the journey, and the chauffeur can wait, track a flight or be at your disposal by the hour.
When it makes sense to book a VTC
A VTC is worth it above all when the journey has a fixed time and a long distance: getting to Madrid-Barajas Airport from Salamanca, a trip to Barcelona or Valencia or a meeting in Madrid.
It also suits groups: a family with luggage, a stag or hen do or friends on a wine route travel together in a people carrier, and the price is shared among everyone.
And for business travel, because the journey time can be spent working and the invoice is issued with your company’s CIF.
